Houseplant Benefits
There are many benefits to having Plants in the home, in all
areas, not just the living room. I'm talking kitchen, bedroom, bathroom,
basement, pretty much every room even the garage. I've said it before and ill
say it again Indoor air is 12 times more polluted than outdoor air. Why? We are
in a confined space with many things that emit pollutants (Link to Pollutants
post) and not enough plant or no plants to produce oxygen and clean the air of
these toxins. Many people just buy plants cause they are aesthetically
pleasing, but it goes beyond that. Houseplant, yes are nice to look at, they
also help our homes feel more relaxing which in return makes you feel more
relaxed and less stressed.
The more plants you have in your home, the more toxins are
removed and the better you will feel. I would recommend have multiples of
different plants. See my other posts on Top Air Purifying Plants
Plants for the bedroom that help you sleep better. And Low
maintenance houseplants.
More Benefits are:
·
Increasing Humidity
o
Which is essential for healthy, beautiful skin.
Low humidity causes dry skin, dry hair, itching and chapping.
Breathing dry air can dry out nasal passages and cause or aggravate respiratory
problems. (I have lung problems and can tell you that it is so much easier for
me to breath in place with higher humidity)
·
Reducing Carbon dioxide Levels
o
High levels can affect respiratory functions
o
It can offset the body’s PH balance `
·
Reducing pollutants (link to pollutants) The
more plants you have the more toxins are removed from the air.
·
Reduces dust levels by up to 20%
·
Keeps Temperatures down
·
They can help avoid illness
·
Promotes healing
·
Increases productivity
Unfortunately, no houseplant rids the air of tobacco smoke. The NASA studies on indoor pollution done in 1989 recommend 15 to 18 plants in 6 to 8-inch- diameter containers to clean the air in an average 1,800 square foot house. That's roughly one plant per 100 square feet of floor space.
·
There have also been studies that say plants can help lower
background noise but I have yet to do more research on this I will keep you all
updated if I find out more.
